FISHING REPORT - Durban - 30th September 2014

FISHING REPORT - Durban - 30th September 2014
Launched at 05h00. Big seas today with swells around 3m, but they were gentle, there was a few 4m plus just outside the harbour. Was interesting conditions with swells coming from various directions, on our way out we had a screaming S-N current and just before Umhlanga it changed to a screaming N-S current, am sure I saw some anchor chains on the ships stretching (LOL). Wind was also all over the show with SE, NW, NE and E. Water temp was very cold just over 19deg for most parts. We got nothing on the troll, and then we did some bottoms and got Englishmen, Stumpy and Soldiers. We also hooked up some Shad and Mackerel at 55m depth by Umhlanga which I found interesting, all were undersized. We put out the Mackerel as a live bait and after a big pull we got half of it back. We saw several Whales around and a pod of Bottenose Dolphins. There was a few birds around but nothing to write home about. 2 of the guys started feeding the fish and so we returned to port early and were docked before 10h30.
