Good Yellowfin in rough seas

We left the harbour at 04h00 into a 25 knot North Easterly wind, although the swells were not that big, it was very choppy. The wind picked up to around 30 knots later on; and then back down to 25 knots. Water was clean but cold at 22.7deg.C. The morning started with a S-N current which swung around to a N-S at around 08h00.

For our efforts we were rewarded with 3 good Yellowfin Tuna at 10, 11 & 12Kg

Whilst out in the deep we saw some small Flying Fish and a large Sunfish.

Lost marlin

Today was one of those frustrating days, first we only launched at 07h00 instead of 04h00 because of the heavy rain. In the morning the sea was big but it settled nicely as the day progressed. Unfortunately with a very high barometer, SE winds, SE swell and a reverse SN current the fishing was very slow.
We came across a shoal of feeding Oceanic Bonitos and managed to get one.
Eventually we went 1-0 on a very large Black Marlin and the line parted for no reason. Grrrrrrr

Dorado season starts with a bang

We left the mooring at 05h00 and as we went out of the harbour mouth we started setting our spread, we were busy running out the 3rd line at about 05h30 when the reel of 2nd line we set out went off, this was less than 1km from the harbour mouth and we had our 1st Queen Dorado on board, we reset the spread and carried on out towards deeper waters and we got a bunch of Yellowfin Tuna, by 07h00 we had 5 fish on board.

There was a SE wind blowing and also a SE swell, and early in the morning it was choppy, but as the day went on conditions improved; we had thought there may be rain but we had a dry day. Water temps varied from 21.9deg.C to 22.5deg.C, out deeper the water was clear.

Once we got out to my deeper marks we set a heading North and it was not long before we had another reel go and this time we landed a prize Dorado Bull of 16Kg.

The day seemed to drag out for me, but the fishing remained good and by the time we were back in port we ended up with 12 good fish; 3 Dorado (2 x 10Kg Queens and a 16Kg Bull) and 9 x 9Kg Yellowfin Tuna.

Was great to run back into port flying flags.

Jozini Tiger Fishing Trip, end November 2013

I drove up to Jozini in the rain yet again, met my clients and we started with and afternoon session, the wind picked up by late afternoon and we only managed 2 Tiger Fish for the session.

Thursday was wet and windy and we only found a window of 4 hrs to fish that day, we got our first Tiger on fly and another one.

Friday was an awesome day, the weather played along and the fish were biting, we stayed out the whole day to make up for lost time the day before and by the end of the day we had landed 14 Tiger Fish.

Saturday started out as a hot day, and we fished 2 sessions, the afternoon saw a storm and cut our session short, we only managed 3 fish for the day.

In total we got 21 Tigers, of which 5 were caught on fly and the largest was just under 2Kg.
